No...it is xp. I just haven't touched it for a few months, not sure what happened to it. I was using it plugged in last time it was on, but I just bought a new wireless router so I pulled it out of hibernation. The driver update didn't do anything...

using rj45 (ethernet) can you access the router? 192.168.1.1 or similair depending on brand. Maybe your wireless router isnt set to broadcast your SSID. Also make sure that the wireless card, if internal, isnt disabled in BIOS.
Another idea would be to have another laptop thats wireless see if it can see the wireless network, this should help narrow it down to either the laptop or the router. GL

It's not the network, two other computers connect to it fine, and the ssid is getting broadcast. The problem is "wireless connection" doesn't come up in network connections as a choice. It should be picking up 3-4 other networks in the area actually. it might not be finding the hardware i guess, but dont know why all of the sudden. doesnt make sense

Have you tried to uninstall your drivers from the device manager. Assuming you are using standard windows and not 3rd party drivers, they should reinstall on reboot. This might fix your problem.

Yea, I uninstalled the drivers, searched for hardware it found them, and it still didnt show. Then I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted same thing. I am starting to think it is something messed up in the network settings or something. The funniest part of this is that the laptop has a huge crack across the screen, it looks so bad, and I can't see a good chunk of the screen. Regardless I wish the wireless would work

Check to see if the required services are enabled (MS Zero config). Look under services for ZeroConfig. Some mfg load there own and disable the MS ZC.

Look at your device manager and see if any thing has a problem.
