I have a wireless router and it has been set up and everything works via cables, and did work via wireless last time I tried to use it. I come back down from college on break and I cant pick up any wireless signals on my comp. I dont know if it's the router or if my comp just isn't getting any signals. I used to get 3 other signals in my house from other networks but it's not picking up them either. any Ideas?

I've heard things about updating firmware, how do I do that and would that help?

Just type your router and put firmware and do a google search. Is your wireless card enabled?

I haven't been able to for the past couple months, when I first moved to my dorm in college I would pick up 3 signals or so a day. Now I can't seem to pick one up. What could be the problem?

Is the wireless in your notebook turned on? Sometimes there's a switch or button to turn it off, other times there's a software control, and often there's both.

Ok, if you havent gotton any signals in a months then there is a wireless card issue. Try the following:
Try disabling it then enabling it,
    Uninstall and reinstall the drivers
If you can, go inside the laptop were the card is and see if everything looks connected properly. If you have trouble doing that let me know.

see the wifi light up to the left of the power button? on = on, off = off.

i suggest you break out the user manual and give it a quick runthrough; you're probably missing out on a bunch of stuff.

Try installing the netbeui or IPX/SPX/Netbios protocal in the network properties. Same area where you can find your tcp/ip settitngs. The windows operating system doesn't install this by default (only tcp/ip). Most home networks/routers work better with this installed. You should be able to see other computers on the network also.
