    Hello,
    All of a sudden my desktop is unable to connect to the internet. I have a broadband router and cable modem. My desktop has always been connected (wired) as follows:

    Cable Modem---->Broadband Router ----> Desktop

    After this problem occured, I've even tried changing to the following:

    1. Cable Modem ----> Desktop (No Connection)

    2. Cable Modem ----> Laptop (No Connection)

    Under normal circumstance, I connect to the internet from my laptop wirelessly.

    I've tried some many things, I've disconnected all hardware - plugged back in, connected the modem (wired) directly to the desktop, connected the laptop (wired) directly to the modem, checked Internet options - never dail for connection, checked the TCP/IP, ipconfig/all, ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew, etc.

    The only way that I was able to get connected to the internet is by connecting my laptop (wired) as follows:

    Cable Modem ----> Broadband Router ----> laptop

    Is there any reason why this would happen and how can I get my original settings back?

    Cable Modem---->Broadband Router ----> Desktop (wired)
    and
    Broadband Router <----> Lapton (wireless)

    so your not getting an internet connection with just the cable modem hooked directly to the desktop? This could be a problem with your isp.
    Also, if your wireless router has ethernet ports,never seen one that didnt, why not use it for the wired desktop and wireless laptop?
    Also some cable providers use mac address authentication, meaning that instead of requiring a username and a password to log on, it uses the mac address of your communication devise that is registered for use. In this case just call them and have it reset. GL

    It's possiable that your router has dropped the MAC address of the notebook. Clone it into you router again, and see if that helps.
