Arrggghhh. I cannot set up my printer to share. Also seeing a couple issues I'm not sure should be there....
1. Have one laptop directly connected to my dsl modem. (will call this desktop)
2. Second laptop is what I am trying to share. (will call this wireless laptop)
On wireless laptop, my local area connection has always had a red x on it.
On both pc's there is not only my R80 HP printer but a copy 1 of that same R80.
Ok, will either one of these factors get in the way of sharing.
I have followed step by step venonbite's instructions on his reply, but it just ain't happening.
Any suggestions....Not sure what I'm doing wrong or if something is getting in the way of setting this up (possibly my anger)............arrggghhhhh

Can wireless laptop connect to the internet? If so, don't worry about the Local Area Network icon. That can even be disabled if you always plan on using a wireless connection. Only worry about that if you plan on using a direct connection to the internet using the DSL modem.
Also, make sure you're in the same workgroup as the printer and the desktop computer. Check this by going to Control Panel > System, check the workgroup is the same on both computers.
Make sure there is no firewall blocking the printer from being able to communicate with the network. -
MSHOME is the workgroup for both and no firewalls are blocking. Check.
Thanks for the qreply. Any other suggestions......
Also good to knwo about not needing the local area conn.... -
I am using the Microsoft MN-500 and looking in the broadband network utility
Under the following headings,
Computer: network and internet not available (with a red x)
WorkGroup: you are not connected
Internet: you are not connected
Meanwhile I am on the internet using it as normal....
What gives...... -
What router are you using?
-
Doesn't sound like they have one. I would recommend it and save yourself a lot of trouble.

My hookup is thru a time warner box and a Microsoft MN-500.....
