This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     New router, 5ghz mode doesn't work

    I got a new wireless N router (no N computers yet though) and there is supposedly a 5ghz mode you can set using the network settings on the router.. but when I put it on 5ghz mode, my computers don't pick it up.

    It's a Dlink DIR-628

    You'll need wirless A or wireless N in order to pick up 5ghz singal. If you have wireless G, it can only pick up 2.4ghz signals.

    Not all WiFi N can pick up 5.8GHz. Look for N that is A compatible.
