I got a dv6105ca for christmas today, and ive been trying to figure out how to get the wireless internet to work.

What happends is that I can connect to the internet, but it will cut out or it will be really slow like 11 kb/s on downloads. Whereas i have a desktop in another room hooked up to the internet and it does fine on wireless.

Im assuming its software, but im not very good at networking or anything of the sort.

Do i need to buy one of those special wireless cards for laptops? or is my software configuration conflicting or something?

    thanks in advance

Try shutting down the firewall and see what happens.

Not the router, the hp. I am assuming you have XP, MS firewall. You should also check the advanced properties of the wireless card. Most all have power management settings that can be adjusted.

Ok so im kind of new when it comes to networking, and im not very good at it , expecially wireless.

One thing i noticed when i was downloading on the laptop, it would slow down the internet of my PC really bad, I can run anything on any of the other computers but this one slowed the internet right down.

Can you kind of guide me in the direction as to where i can fix this, like what area the settings for the card would be?

Am I supposed to have to buy a special card to connect wirelessly with my laptop?

    thx.

When you are downloading, is the slow internet speed on your HP or other pc's? And is the wireless or wired that this happen with.

No special card should be needed. But if its a MIMO router/card it could be conflicting with the other wireless users. If so turn this feature off in the router and card.
