http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=6 I bought this a couple of days back and noticed that its speed on all the notebooks is staying at a max 54.0mbps, Its supposed to go up till 108mbps according to the website and thats why I bought it.

I know that I have a 100mbps connection because when I connect the ethernet cable it says so...but I dont seem to get the same on wireless

    any idea why?

btw I have Rogers High Speed Internet Extreme.

    Thanks

AFAIK, the wireless card and router must be made by the same manufacturer and must support the 108 bandwidth "slight-of-hand" trick. Is your laptop's wireless card a D-Link, and does it support 108?

yes, your card must match the router.

no big deal unless you do a lot of LAN data transfer. for web stuff, the bottleneck is your www connect speed.

yup you must have the matching wireless card in your laptop to see those speeds. The fastest the card in your laptop can do is 54 so thats what it stays at.

Not only must your laptop card use a compatible chipset to get 108Mbps, anytime someone with a non 108Mbps wireless card connects to your router it will drop down to 54g or 11b until they disconnect.

My Wireless Card is Intel 3945ABG...Considering my laptop is new and top of the line for now a days it should support 108Mbps...Should I try to change its settings in device manager?

Maybe try to change it to performance instead of power saving mode?

If you want 108, buy a D-Link card that supports 108. That is the only way you will ever get 108.

You should be able to get any wireless card that has an Atheros 108Mbps chip on it to work at 108Mbps with your DLink, but since intel doesn't use these, your IntelPro 3945 won't work.

so it is an intel 3945abg. its max. thoughput is only 54mbps. as indicated by the intel website itself ( http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/products/wireless/prowireless_mobile.htm).

if you want the maximum throughput your wi-fi module must have the same chip as your router. i believe dlink has the atheros chip. so either change your wifi minipc module to an atheros based wifi minipc or get a pc card wifi based on the atheros chip (obviously dlink superg pccard)
