Ok Brought a new laptop today Hp DV5 has windows vista, anyway My network at hom consists of 3 other computers all connect fairly easily to the network, last laptop we turned router off for few mins then back on and it worked.

I tryed this with my laptop a few times now and It won't connect to the internet, It will however connect to the network.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing its a driver Issue what drivers should I have installed? Do I need Vista SP1?

If you mean that the globe in the network and sharing centre is crossed out, then try changing the dns servers. You can use 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 (they are from opendns... quite good!)

Your system should already have Vista SP1 installed, but if not, then absolutely install it. Make sure you read update procedures for your system prior to doing so.

Since you haven't listed your exact model series number or Product #, I can't put the exact link down for your system, but you can find it yourself. Get the Product # from your label under the system, usually on the left side. Go to this link and enter it in the field, and click on Support and Troubleshooting. Make sure you go through the Setup & Install section, and the Software and Driver Downloads area. Note the other sections for future reference, and bookmark the page.

    HP SUPPORT & DRIVERS

If it's connecting to the Network but not the 'net, then you probably need to adjust your Internet Options settings. Go to Control Panel, Security Center. Note if your Firewall is on - if so, that plus your options are probably blocking site connections. Click on Internet Options on the left side, and go through the Security, Privacy and Advanced options. Security and Privacy are the areas which usually block 'net access though. On the Security tab, make sure you adjust options for both the Internet and Trusted Sites options (click on their icons to change the setting options for each).

If you still have problems, go to your Support site that the link above will take you to, then click on Solve a Problem, then Wireless/Internet.

I find this is a pretty frequent problem with the intel 5300 wireless adapter...the most recent drivers from the Intel site has improved things greatly, but it still occurs
