I have been using my new HP NC8430 for around 2 weeks now, and I absolutley love it, except for one thing, my wireless internet surfing is now slower than it was with my 3 year old Thinkpad R40. My Thinkpad did not have built in wireless, so I had to use a belkin card in the card slot, but it worked great. My new HP NC8430 using the internal wireless connected to my Linksys router/hub loads pages noticeably slower, and loses the connection alot more. Anyone else have this problem before? If so what was the solution or can you point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this one. I just can't believe my brand new laptop would run slower than my old one.

See if you can update the wireless drivers.

Yes, do that. It helped in my older Ferrari 3200.

This laptop is only 2 weeks old though, and its a newer model from HP. Could a driver that is only a few months old be worse than my Thinkpad?......

Still just as slow, anyone have any other ideas? It's definately the built in wireless adapter, I just hooked it up to the direct ethernet cable to the router and it works great, but use the wireless connection and it takes forever to load a page.....

It's possiable that the builtin wireless is not compatable with your router. Certian chip sets do not play well with others. Or it may be like my wireless in my laptop. It's a raylink 2500 and it sucks. Max distance of about 20' line of site. And it still drop connectons when it's only 10' from the AP. I use a external card all the time.

Try changing your router to different channel. Did you try a different browser to see if it was your browser. If you are using IE download Firefox and see if you still get the same results. Do you have a sofware firewall on one and not the other. Just some suggestions.

I will see if I can figure out how to change the channel of the router. I am currently using firefox, but I have the same problem when I use IE as well. No firewall installed yet.....frustrating.....It took me about 10 minutes to download the Oblivion patch a while ago.....unbelievable... :(

    jasba,

To boost the performance of a Wireless Module (usually with Intel)
    1) you should go to Control Panel
    2) go to Network Connections
    3) open Wireless Network Connection and hit the Properties button
    4) (you should be in the Wireless Network Connection windows), Click the Configure button
    5) (you should be in a new window) go to the Advanced tab
    6) under the Property section, scroll down and look for Power Management
    7) (as you can see it defaults at Lowest) UNCHECK the "Use default" option, and change it to Highest (for max performance)
    8) hit OK and OK.

    Thats it.

You should notice an increase of wifi performance, both in speed and range.

    Enjoy

    Game On People,
    -Gophn
