    Hey guys,

After many desktops I've finally picked up a laptop. However, when I plug in my ethernet cable, my cable modem fails to have the PC light flash, and I get no connection. The power and cable lights are fine.

I've never had this issue with a desktop. All I'd ever have to do is plug in the cable, and I'd be off.

By the way, I've tried unplugging and replugging multiple times. My network configurations are identical to my desktop's as well.

Plug it in a bit harder, for my Asus W3J it worked.//Note : Does you laptop have network lights to begin with.
The flashing light will be present unless there is no signal or there is a failed Network adapter.
In the second case contact your support.

You will need to contact your ISP, or get a router (recommended). When you setup your account it registered the MAC address of your desktop pc. You either need to see if you can add a second pc mac address, or the best thing is to add a router. With a router you can clone the mac address of your desktop in to it so your isp only see its address. If you have a router just clone you desktop into if not you know your options.

This is the way ISP controls and track who can connect to there system/network.
