My Vista Home Basic/XP Pro machines see everyone.
Vista access to XP is fine.
XP access to Vista Public Folder is fine.
XP access to any other Vista shared folder is no access. I can see it but no access.
    No firewalls
    yes passwords set

I don't have this problem on other Vista Ultimate/XP Pro networks. Is Home Basic the problem?

Appealing to all you smarties.

    Set the permissions :)

Also turn on password protected sharing.

Crap, I'm over here in networking ... nobody will ever see it. :p
Just kidding, I should have looked harder for the proper category.

I have set password and permissions. But keep the ideas coming ... I must be missing something.

Hey something was different in the permission area on Ultimate. I was able to add a name and the boxes checked. This was not happening with Home. I'll have to give it another try tomorrow.

Try adding users "Everyone" and "Guests" under permissions on the shared folder.

I did have Everyone but not Guests (another thing I will try). Wow Ultimate works so much slicker for permissions. Options are the same but they actually WORK!

    Thanks.

I still have not got all my networks stuff working yet. All my home computers are XP with the exception of my personal desktop and one of my work laptops. Add my PS3 and I havent even setup any media sharing for my home theatre.. I dont even wanna try anymore.

The basic functions of network on XP usually work out of the box as long as you have literally shared a folder and have sharing turned on. Enabling permissions and security makes sharing trickier in XP. Vista is actually easier in this regard and more intuitive. I'm sure the problem is in permissions not sticking for my Vista problem ... haven't gotten back to the office yet.

    I've never done a PS3/home theater deal.

I know I just need to sit down and spend some time going over permissions, I just do not want to. :)

I worked with permissions again and all is now a GO.

Permissions are easier through the properties menu on the shared folder "hint".
The user has to be added (no surprise) but you may have to \\user to get to it.
