Yes indeed,I'm at it again. My desktop lately have never come to terms with the internet. I changed my router. And now when I connect to my ethernet card, I just cannot seem to connect to the network.

If I type "ipconfig /all" in the cmd field, the Default Gateway is blank, and so is DNS Servers.

If I type ipconfig /renew,it says "The following error occurred when renewing adapter Local Area Connection: DHCP Server Unreachable."

ipconfig /release says "All adapters bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses. The addresses were automatically configured and cannot be released.

What the heck is going on?

Perhaps a router firmware update will help.

It's the first time I'm trying after getting the new router. It used to be incredibly slow before. And connection would drop too. Coming to think of it,a busted LAN card?

If you can, swap out your NIC with a new one. You should have no problems whatsoever if you have a wired connection to your router. If you have problems, it's usually because of NIC bad drivers or NIC bad hardware.

    NIC is the LAN/Ethernet card,right?

NIC stands for Network Integrated Controller?

Before swapping the card, you may want to try a new cable first, if you haven't already. It's alot easier!

I did try that. No use. I am not swapping the card. My desktop is going to be donated in like 2 weeks,so swapping the card is just useless. I got a USB 2.0 one. Lot easier. The desktop was good while it lasted. 6 year old Dell XPS. Teh best at that time. I couldn't believe it was an XPS(I have only seen that desktop last year - it's my cousin's and I just moved in like a year ago) because it looked umm, un-XPS-ish. But still not a bad computer, but the processor makes it slow(P3 600MHz).

    OH **** YEAH!

Now the desktop is talking. The Linksys $32 USB thingy worked the wonder. I'd say that's $32 well spent :D

Glad to hear you can access the net on your laptop. But still hoping to solve your problem instead of band-aid fix.
I would go into control panel/network connection/ and make sure that your NIC is not disabled. You will also see your usb controller there as well.

Just curious, did I swear? To the best of my knowledge I did not. Bruce, could you just confirm that?

Sykotic,it's my desktop. Well I don't this is a band-aid fix. I believe my NIC is at fault. But I still wonder how/why. I can see both controllers there, but my NIC-card is disconnected(Local Area Connection Unplugged) because I haven't plugged anything in.I don't need to.

    Thanks a lot guys,for your help/suggestions! :)
