    Hello,

I was wondering how I can keep my contacts up to date with all my linked computers on the network at home with Microsoft outlook.

Or do I have to use another program?

An exchange server is a microsoft mail server that allows users to share contacts with other users on the network--but that is probably a more expensive option than you want to go with

Hi, I'm no IT expert, but here's my thoughts.

There are many different ways to sync outlook contacts between computers. They vary in cost and complexity, and it's hard to recommend one over the other without knowing what your needs are. Below are three possible solutions.

    (1) Just use gmail, or hotmail, or any other web based email solution.
    Cost:free
This is the simplest way to keep your emails, contacts, calender data in sync between computers. You'd access it all through a web browser.
    Cost:free
    advantages:
    -easy, maintenance free
    - if a computer crashes you'll not loose any contacts, emails, or calender entries
    - in gmail you can still use a non @gmail email address
    disadvantages:
    - you need internet access to get to your contacts, calender, emails;
    - risk of someone breaking into your account (as always) so choose a good password, specify an email from a different service as your secondary email (gmail alows this), read password recovery procedures before you have an emergency.

    (2) Use outlook on your computers, sync them with gmail, using google apps, and a program called google apps sync for Microsoft Outlook (GASMO)
Cost: $50 per user per year, requires google apps premier

    (3) Use an exchange hosted service
You use outlook on your computers, you pay fee to a company that has the exchange server. This keeps all your emails, contacts, calender data on their server.
Here's one company that does this:
Hosted Exchange | Intermedia: Trusted Microsoft Exchange Hosting Solutions

Hosted Exchange can get pricey. If you really want Exchange, you can always sign up with MS for an Action Pack subscription for around $300. You'll get full copies of all their software including all the desktop and Server operating systems and apps.
