How secure is my network if I use only mac filtering and turn off ssid broadcast?

I would like to use WEP or WPA, but if guest come and want to connect, it's a PITA to configure. Any solutions?

Why is it a PITA to configure when a guest comes and wants to connect? Just give the guest the password and they just connect.

It takes about 4 seconds more to connect to a secure network vs a non-secure network (which entails the guy/gal typing in the password)

I've tried that before, but they just couldn't connect until I took WEP off.

Uh then there's something wrong with your hardware/setup. I would reset your router and start again. There's no reason why you can't connect to a secure network unless you de-secure.

Think of a door with a lock. Do you have to physically take out the lock everytime you want to enter the door? No, you use a key and simply unlock the door.

    My computers work with WEP.
One of my friend's computers didn't.

You should be on WPA not WEP. WEP is not considered secure. It's a hobby teanagers do when they find one is see how fast they can break end, normally less than 1 min. Mac filtering is not considered a secure network. All network traffic is based on it and is included with all packets. As far as the security key. Save it in a notepad file on a usb pin drive. Then have them copy and paste the key. Typing can generates a lot of errors. I use very strong keys that are normaly max length 48-63 chr long using all printable chrs. The odds of tying it in correctly is very very low. But using the copy and paste, works every time.
