I recently reformatting an old Toshiba P4 laptop (Toshiba P10), but has since gotten many problems with it networking connections.

    1) I tried installing drivers for the wireless card (Atheros AR5001X+) , but whatever I do, it can't detect any wireless card. I uninstalling and reinstalling several times, but they didn't help

    2) Whatever I try to download (files from the internet, torrent) they go at an incredibly slow pace (something like 6-10 kps). However, this problem is solved when I bypass my router (D-Link DI 624) and connect to the cable modem directly. I tried several different firmwares, did they didn't fix the problem.

None of these problem were there before I re-installed windows, so I expect they have something to do with that. However, I've a few times in the past on this computer, but they didn't have these problems. I also installed the computer with several anti-spyware software, NOD32, and ZA 7.0 installed, so I'd doubt it is a virus problem

    Thanks in advance

Try rebooting the router. Sounds like something is hung up.

Check to see if you have your FW setup correctly. I do not like having more that one FW/AV program active at one time. They can fight each other and really kill a connection.

I already rebooted the router several times and upgraded its firmware to the latest version. I also tried shutting off the AV/FW software, but it didn't help.

Does Toshiba have the drivers you using?

And during the install after windows base did you install the chipset drivers? This is where all of the hardware is detected. With out the chipset driver all of the hardware will not be detected.

When having problems kill off all AV/FW/AW. even drop off wireless secuity.

Can you ping sits using domain names and IP's?
