Hi! This is Apoorva. Recently, I have purchased an HP 530 Business notebook. I am facing an issue of connecting this notebook to a network HP printer. This network printer is connected to my desktop pc which is in the same living room where the notebook is.

Let me first help you with all the details about my system.

    Notebook: HP 530
    Desktop: Assembled PC
    Printer: HP DeskJet D2360.
    Router: TP Link 8920G Wi-Fi Router. ( www.tplink.com)
Connection from Notebook to PC is Wireless.
OS: Both Notebook and PC has Windows Vista Ultimate.

Now, there's no issue with the printer b'coz I am able to print through my desktop PC. Also, I am able to ping Desktop PC's IPAdress through this HP 530 notebook.

But, when I try to print through this notebook to this remote HP printer, I am being asked for User Id and password of the remote PC. Now, this seems to me like I need to add my notebook to the authorization list of the remote PC by granting the user of this notebook an access to Share printer on the remote PC.

I wonder how I should do this.

I connect to this network printer by entering the address as:

\\192.XXX.X.X\HP2360 since I have named the printer as HP2360 on the remote PC under the Printer’s sharing tab.

Other way round to resolve this issue is to Turn Off the password option in Network & Sharing Center.
Could anybody on this forum assist me with this issue please?

Are both in the same workgroup and the same subnet?

How should I find that out? And how does it help when both are in the same subnet?
