Nope, it just means, you can connect the ethernet cable from modem/router and you'll have internet access.

How can you tell whether or not a computer is ready for WiFi? Is there a way to check on the computer by going to System? Anything in particular to look for?

Well, it depends what computer you have, but also if you have 802.11 wireless PCI card internally, so run diagnostic programs like Sandra and Everest.

If it's a Centrino, its guaranteed to have WiFi.

what do you mean by "ready" ?

are you asking if your notebook is able to connect wirelessly right now or are you asking if it's capable of connecting wirelessly with an upgrade?

Sorry, by ready I meant if the computer was able to connect wirelessly as it is, with no need to buy any extra cards or installing anything else.

Any new laptop bought today unless it is a low base model is going to have WiFi.

    what make/model is it?

if it came wifi ready, you will see some type of wifi configuration app in start/programs. you should also see some type of wifi status icon in your system tray.
