The main advantage of hardware firewall is that it can't be switched off by a rootkit of any kind. These firewalls are not easy to upate unless you can write your own firewall rules via cmd line. Anyway- hardware firewall is a good inbound protection (including DoS attacks, Packet Inspection etc) but no use as an outband protection.

So my advice is- keep the SPI firewall on Netgear on but do have a software firewall on as it is easier to keep up to date and you can keep an eye on what's trying to connect to internet (using what modules etc.)

For examlpe- recent info on Windows Genuine Advantage trying to "call home" everyday was no surprise to me as my firewall warned me a while ago what's cooking, so I set this process to "kill"- WGA can't run on my compuer, let alone connect to M$. The same applies to any trojan trying to connect by itself or even via legit app.

    Regards
