So i was setting up, my new NETGEAR WNR834Bv2 RangeMax™ Next Wireless Router N-Draft compatible

Im Using Windows Vista Home 64 bit
so i was trying to install it lastnight on my sager NP9262, i go through the set up instructions, get into the router setup webpage thing, set up everything, i set it up to G mode cause of the other wcomputers in our network that cant support N yet, i can connect to the internet though my computer using an ethernet cable connected into the router, when i try to connect o to the wireless network that i created using the router,(it sees the wireless network) windows vista pops up with a message saying that it cant connect to the wireless netowork for some reason
i have no password on it
is there a certian setting i have to mess with in vista to get it to work?
Note: it does this on my brothers computer as well he has vista home 32 bit

i also have an old d-link g router it works perfect, works on all the systems
so what am i doing wrong?

Make sure you have the latest firmware in router.

Driver support for the 64bit version is limited. Make sure you have the latest.
On your vista turn off IP6 under the port setting. Vista prefers security on wireless. I would recommend setting up WPA(2) Personal AES. If you have some older cards that do not support AES use TKIP. Delete the connection and try again.

I would also recommend changing the SSID to something unique. Duplicates SSID cause problems.

Routers do not require drivers. And Netgear does not have any more problem the rest. Vista wireless is JPITA. It has had problems ever since it was released from day one.

Unfortunately thats Vista for you, :D

It sounds to me like its a authentication problem. As standard and for ease of use try with WEP 128bit encryption and try to get a connection. Then try WPA AES. I have seen many issues with Netgears protocols not being the best when interacting with other manufacturers equipment. Not Netgears' fault, personally I beleive they have the standard in protocol and the others dont.

as everyone else has said, check the default settings on the router

if i remember right, you can select mixed g/n mode >> then wpa2 using aes

when you change the settings, remember to SAVE them on that page b4 moving on

also, if you just downloaded(updated) the firmware, i think it resets to default settings..... when it reboots the router

    annie's got her gun :)

On netgear there is a special procedure to clear all settings out.
hold the reset for 20 sec, pull power still holding the reset for another 20 sec. Plug it back it while still holding the reset for another 20 sec, then release. This is the procedure beta tester use to flush the users ram area.
