I am considering the Netgear WDNR3700 and see on their site that there is now a v3. Any ideas as to the difference from v1 and v2?

    Rumor has it that it's a WNDR4000 without 450mbps on 5GHz band.
If that's true WNDR3700v3 is based on a Broadcom chip not an Atheros.

You'd be better of with v1 or v2.

v2 has more flash memory than v1 (16mb vs 8mb).

v3 could just be a different radio chipset as downloads noted.

I'm thinking of just getting a v2 to test out the Gargoyle firmware.

It's twice the flash memory. The RAM is the same.
V1 had better antennas though resulting in better throughput- still it's not like you have a choice these days.

I was looking at this thread before I made my final decision on the WNDR3700v2.

I read somewhere that the WNDR3700v3 has a Broadcom CPU and chipsets and is just a watered down WNDR4000 with dual band 300 instead of 450.

I'm unsure if this is true but if it is I'm not sure it's a good thing since IMO the WNDR3700v2 is better than the WNDR4000.

I guess the next best thing once all the WNDR3700v2's are off the shelf would be the WNDR3800 which is still expensive ATM and for the price one would probably consider getting a E4200 over the WNDR3800.

Quick question. Are the version numbers shown on the boxes?

There are version numbers on the box.

I was at Office max today considering a purchase of this router and they had version 2 and version 3 on the shelves.

You can look at the side of the retail box and see v2 or v3.

btw... Office Max has a 20% off coupon available on their website good for the next few days. You can have this router for $80 plus tax.

Better to get the WNDR3700v2's now while they're still available afterwards you'll have to get the WNDR3800 for the same hardware as the WNDR3700v2.
