Long story short, I had the latest DD-WRT on the R7000, but it was unstable with frequent reboots. Then I decided to flash Tomato on it. I flashed the initial CHK file (tomato-R7000-initial.chk) instead of the latest firmware TRX file (tomato-R7000-ARM--132-VPN-64K.trx). When I flashed it, I checked the box that said "reset to default settings". Now I cannot log into the router. Reset button does not work, and when I go to 192.168.1.1, a login prompt asks for "DD-WRT". I tried all possible combinations of root, admin, password login to no avail. Please help!

So if I understood this correctly then the correct way would be:

DD-WRT -> Stock Netgear -> Tomato initial -> Tomato latest.

    Is this correct? Thanks :)

Btw, did you notice any improvements with Tomato over DD-WRT on the R7000 ?

I believe that would be a safe way to do it, in that order. I also believe you can skip the stock Netgear part and go straight from DD-WRT to Tomato initial--it's been a while.

I've used Tomato for the longest time, so I don't know how DD-WRT compares to it to be honest. Tomato has been solid for me. My record was around 170 days uptime until I unplugged my router during cleaning.
