Hi, I bought this wireless router a while ago and recently got a Acer Aspire 2012. I found that the wireless connection was awful and even after firmware updates (which were apparently done to improve compatibility between MR814's and centrinos) the connection was hopeless. Anyway, does anyone know a solution to this? I find that the connection is great, if I'm only a few meters away from the router (around 2 or 3 meters?). Anywhere past that and I lose the connection, it just goes from 'excellent reception' to 'no signal'. And then windows keeps popping up with 'network found' but when I click connect, it doesn't actually do anything.

If there isn't a solution, I've been considering getting a new router that supports 802.11g instead, such as the WG602. Does anyone know whether this one has centrino problems?

EDIT - I forgot to mention that I've used a MA521 netgear 802.11b pcmcia on the same laptop and can go all over the house with no signal loss..

I would say that if you can use a pcmcia card with the same notebook, there must be a problem with the built-in wireless card in your notebook or the software/firmware tha controls it.
I have the netgear mr814 version 2 and it's the best wireless router I've used, I can connect from neighbors house several doors down from us (~150ft)at 50% signal level. I'm using the thinkpads built-in wireless from Intel.

Yeah, I thought it was my card as well, but after testing it on other routers, I've found that it works fine! Anyway, I searched around the net for other people's solutions and finally decided to upgrade the firmware of the MR814 to a Dutch beta version. For some reason, it seems to work fine now (it makes no sense, I know). Anyway, if anyone else has this prob and needs the firmware, leave a message and I will email it to them.

Someone tell me where the firmware upgrade is for the MR814? I've been having problems with my centrino notebook since I got it a week ago. I've been running wireless on my desktop for over a year with no problems. But I get intermittent drops on my centrino notebook.
