    Hi.

I have had an NETGEAR DG834GT for a few years and it has worked great.

Now I, always keep the firmware on my device up to date.

I was on Version 1.02.04 for a year or so.

but the other week, I upgraded to Version 1.02.09, and today I upgraded to latest Version 1.02.13, strange a new firmware after only a week or so.????

since i upgraded to Version 1.02.13, I have had problems with sites not loadingat all, or very slowly.

Now I am not certain if this is a wifi problem or an internet problem.

But i have also had problems logging in to the routers settings, very slow.

So I have downgraded to Version 1.02.04, and now everything is working perfect again.

Does anybody have any idea what happened

    thanks

    John.

Netgear alot of times needs to be reset back to factory setting before upgrading. But not on minor revision changes normally. And Netgear has at times will fix one bug while breaking something else. I nave a FVS338 Bussiness router, it was total junk on the release. They should have been sued on false advertisment, because on 10% of the feature worked. I worked as beta tester for them for 6mo. And today 3+yrs later alot of the logging features still do not work. Which is needed for bussiness class routers. Even the syslog is not working. Beside that It's a good solid router, but I have yet to see any mfg firmware be 100% bug free. It seam they get it functional then quit. The reason dd-wrt firmware is so popular. Before 11n was released most mfg were having problem with 11b and 11g playing together. 11n just makes it worst. The problem is that they are constantly change chipsets and ram. All to try to save 1 cent. they spend 1000's of dollars working on firmware. At on period the firmware was contracted out to india... They got what the paid for. 1/2 way through my beta testing Netgear returned the firmware development back to the US. Then most of my problems started clearing up.

I generally wait for at least a month after the release. That way if something shows up it will be changed quickly. If it last a month with out changing I will load it.

Also, some and increasingly more firmware updates, reset the router back to the factory default settings. Before updating the firmware, it's always a good idea to back up the router settings, then you can easily reload them to exactly what you had.
