    Thanks MatrIx and Coriolis!!!

I was having the same problem with wireless disconnecting after 30mins on battle.net , after deleting the default starcraft trigger in the router settings, I can now play full games without disconnecting. I was also having trouble joining custom games (warcraft 3) and that's fixed too. awesome.

Now i have one more problem with my computer.... My wireless connection disconnects when i log on to msn 7.5, but this only happens on my desktop. any suggestions any1?

Hmmm, no clue on the MSN 7.5 issue..

    Perhaps its software related?

And, of course, glad to see it's been fixed.

VV - if it shows that, it means something is not connected. Try replugging it in after 30~ mins or reseting the router.

I doubt I can be of any help to you for that, since its a diferrent router, different firmware, etc.

Perhaps posting a new thread in this forum would wield more results.

    Best of luck!

First, I have read thru the first few pages of this thread and everything sounds very familiar. I don't have a netgear router, I use a linksys, but was experiencing drops from WCIII even before I went wireless.

My symptoms are consistent and I have found out what works for me.

First of all, the port triggering does not need to be used to be able to host. It is correct that you want to forward the ports 6112 thru 6119, both UDP and TCP. The IP address should be your computers IP, and is most likely 168.192.15.100.

My OS is Windows Xp Home. If you use a different OS, the following may or may not work as well for you as it did for me in preventing the disconnects when playing WCIII. First, right-click on the warcraft III shortcut and go to the properties. Then, under the compatability tab, I set it to run in windows 95 mode. Try it yourself, it has almost eliminated disconnect problems for me.

In my case, I can usually join and play a complete game. after the game is over, I know if I am disconnected from Bnet if the "news" page is blank and requires a restart of WCIII before I can rejoin Bnet

    Well, its basically:

    Wall(the phone jack)

    connects to

    Modem

    connects ethernet to

    Router

Connects wired(needs to be wired first to configure the router) to:

    Computer,laptop,etc.

There should be a manual included though...

Ok, bear with me, I'm trying not to make that much of a mess with things.
I switched back over to DSL the other day.
In our house we have a Dell PC and a Dell notebook, which has an integrated wireless card.
I have two modems, a relatively old Westell 2200 and a Westell 6100. I just purchased the Netgear WGR614 router this evening.
I was on the phone with Verizon tonight and they told me that they would have to "bridge" the 6100 in order for it to work with the Netscape...and that they will not give me any tech-support with the Netscape as they only give support on Linxsys (sp?). They also told me that after they help me to bridge the modem I would have to talk with Netscape about connecting and running the router.
In everyones opinions here, should I just wait it out until tomorrow and have Verizon help me with the bridge and Netscape with the router, or is there a better way?

    Hello, I'm new here.

I'm trying to connect my wireless lap-top via the WGR614 router. I am currently connected through the router hard-wired on a second PC. This PC does not have wireless capabilities.

Anyway, excuse me if i'm being vague or unclear, but when I attempt to access the following site: 192.168.1.1 via my hard-wired computer, the website fails to come up and prompt me for a username and password.

I actually cannot even access the site at all using my browser. Will I not have to access that web-address in order for me to set-up the wireless settings for my wireless connection?

    Sorry. And thanks in advance,

    - J

Hi i have this router as well, version 6, mine constantly looses connection used to be about once a week now its about 5 times a day is there anyting i can do?
it disconnects both wireless and wired and it needs a reset to quickly solve the problem but will re connect after a few mins if left alone.

Disable Super AG on the router and disable any packet bursting on your wireless card. Also set both to be in Wireless-G only. I have this router at home (in college atm) and it gave me alot of pain as well. You can ask for an exchange with Netgear but there is a good chance you have to go through like 3-4 units before getting a "good" one. Anyway I think the problem is that the unit overheats and that it uses an Atheros chipset that doesnt play nice with Broadcom based units. I would also set a mac filter and static IPs.

Anyway the best advice I can give is to ditch this router and get a Motorola WR850G. They are like $35 on ebay and when flashed with DD-WRT owns this POS Netgear any day. I have this router in college and it has disconnected once.

p.s. if you cant access your netgear set your ethernet card to connect to a static ip 192.168.x.2 etc. Also check using ipconfig if you are even connected to the router or not. If you see a default gateway you are good to go.

As for the Westell thing I think that modem can act like a router which basically means you want your Netgear to act like a switch. A better way is to disable the DHCP on the Westell and use it like a plain modem however Im not sure how to do that (its definitely possible but Iv never used it). Anyway Verizon is telling you to disable the DHCP on the Netgear. If you are lazy you can go a third way which is to just change the default network range on the Netgear so you have a daisy chain of routers. That gives you better security (though I doubt anyone is going to hack you) but will be a pain if you ever want to play games online etc.

Hey, read all the useful things you have been writing. I have just got really excited and worked out why my router keps disconnecting. HEAT! Stick it on its side and it's fine, also if you blow in the air vents it works even better, before when it was sitting flat all sorts of lights were flashing and it was disconnecting, i couldn't work it out, when i put it on its side it was fine, i keep a fan next to it now and it works great, surly netgear should of found these problems out before, how stupid, maybe they should have built an inbuilt fan?

switched from Comcast internet using Motorola surfboard cable modem to Verizon FIOS using ActionTec router.

daisychained the ActionTec which is kinda crappy to my Netgear g router and it was a pita.

supposedly on most you can just disable dhcp to daisy chain but the netgear had an ip conflict and i can't remember what all i did with the verizon tech to get it working.

i can get signal to my xbox 360 and its wireless adapter from either the actiontec or the netgear but i think the netgear gets a stronger signal.

also the netgear at least had an open NAT when testing the the xbox live connection but the ActionTec is moderate which isnt' ideal but better then strict and everything still works.

I ending up getting a netgear wall outlet inet connection sharing device which gives the 360 a pseudo wired connection but strangely enough when i stream 1080p wmvs from my pc they run smoother on the wireless connection then the wired through netgear recepticle thing.

that tells me that the connection must lose some speed/power when going through the electric outlet. will have to do speed test on laptop through the wifi compared to wired to the netgear electric outlet thing.

any info on the ActionTec router would be helpfu and i think i do have instructions for it somewhere on how to set it up better for gaming which may open the NAT. never bothered yet cus it works without doing that.

360 recommends using an A router though mostly just to not get interference from the wireless controller, headset etc plus your neighbors g networks and cordless phones all on 2.4ghz and the wireless adapter has A/b/g so i may try to find an a/b/g router at some point like the linksys one as my laptop can use wireless A also.

no stores have any routers with 802.11a anymore but you can get online.

    any A router recomendations?

they list the xbox 360 compatible routers @ http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/homenetworking/equipment.htm

and the only 2 that are a/b/g are the D-link DI-784 and Linksys WRT55AG (v2)

but there are a couple compatible wireless bridges with A also Linksys

You described it exactly has it happened to me, even the setup and all. The only thing that's different is replace WIII with WoW.

Thanks for the advice, I'll see how it works out, I am now using the legs.

    Hey guys,
i have the same router, but hardware v7. On the box they say this router has kind of "double hardware firewall". the question is, does this firewall come activated by default, and if not, how do u activate it???

Holy moly, I made the mistake of buying this router in an emergency this weekend after my other router died. I agree DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER! It's going in the trash, I can't tell you how much pain it has caused me. My connection dies every 15 minutes like clockwork, among other things. I won't go on.

The router is great, paid $25 for it. The only problem I have is that I cannot play Starcraft on 2 computers. I set myself as the DMZ and forwarded port 6112 to 6119 to my bro's computer. When I am connected, he cannot. I think the problem with this is the way the router handle the port forwarding. If one computer connected to that port, the other computer cannot. I tested on both port forward and trigger, both failed.

Aaaalrighty then.....let me qualifiy my post by admitting I may not be the most techno-savy person on Earth. With that said:

I just recieved my new Inspiron 1520 and NetGear WGR614 and was trying to set up my wireless internet.......this router had me using curse words I didn't even know I knew. Can someone have mercy and verify the basics for a complete noob like me?

    1. I don't have to have a desktop running along with my laptop just to use the router do I? I thought all I needed was a modem, the router, and to load some software on my laptop, right? Plug the cable modem into the wall, hook the router to the modem, load the software, and voila!?! Am I reqired to load the software on a non-wireless computer???

    2. When setting up the router, I have the router hooked to my laptop during set up and software installation (per instructions) but after I think I have everything set up I unplug the connection and *poof* no wireless access. I go to my wireless manager program and can see the NetGear network liste but I'm locked out of it. In other words, without the laptop connected via cable to the router, I get no internet.....

Can somebody give me a few tips in plain English???? I will be forever grateful!

    Thanks!

Did you use the wired port on you nb to do the initial setup? If so I would clone the MAC address of the wired port into the router. Should be under the adv settings for the WAN/ISP setup. You are not required to install software on a pc for your built in wireless on the NB. Doing so you may now have 2 wireless managers running. You need to also have a firewall rule to allow your local subnet for your network. To test if its a fw issue just disable it and see if you can connect.

    Did you setup the wireless?
Did you setup wireless security, WPA(2)?

Thanks for the quick reply blue68f100. How do I clone the MAC address? Is it a matter of copy/paste? How do I set a firewall rule to allow my local subnet? In fact, what is a local subnet?

When you ask if I've set up my wireless or wireless security.....doesn't the notebook come preset or is there something else I need to do?

This stuff is Greek to me. I used to think I was a smart guy until I tried hooking this router up........apparently, I am monumentally stupid. Can I sue NetGear for hurting my innerchild's self-esteem?

This router froze every time I started to download something, and each time I had to reset it to get it working again. I upgraded the firmware but it still disconnects me.

Now that I've changed to a Buffalo GHR-HP-G54 and it's been up for half a year without needing a reboot.

One thing about the WGR614 is that it looks very nice though.
