My laptop has a built-in wireless lan which automatically got me into the Internet once I turned on the machine. Now I'm not able to do so. The wireless connection does not automatically start at startup, nor can I get it started manually.

The problem happened right after I have made some changes in the msconfig & services.msc (I was trying to follow the recommendations posted in "How to optimize your laptop performance" thread in the same forum.). I suspect that I must have done something wrong but I can't remember what kind of changes I have made.

Can someone help me out here?

    Try re-installing the driver/application.

How should I do that? I only have the recovery cds that came with the machine. Appreciate if you can further explain as I'm not tech savvy.

Do a google search for your card then put driver downloads behind that.

What card/laptop is it? You should be able to download it from the laptop maker's website.

I finally got it fixed. The problem was that I accidentally disabled the "Wireless Zero Configuration" while making changes in services.msc. I have now changed from "Disabled" to "Automatic", and that solved the problem.
