I am using the Netgear Dual Band WNDR 3300 Router with the Dual band usb 2.0 wireless device. Lately I have been getting internet connections at 5.5 mbps and can barely load google. A month ago I was able to stream audio/video with no problems but thats not even remotely possible. Also my connection seems to drop every 10 minutes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Also, what specific system are you trying to connect on? What OS is it running, what's the make/model of the USB device you're using, and are you using the netgear wireless connection manager, the default Win connection manager, or some other connection manager?

Maybe time to check for virus and malware. Also take a look at your MTU setting on the router, lower it to 1492 and see if it helps on loading pages.

Its the Netgear Dualband WNDA3100 USB.

    Runnign windows vista home basic.

I finally got a solid internet connection so far and its going at about 121 MB/S but I still cannot stream off of youtube or any other site and it will D/L at around 30 kb/s when my moms wireless laptop will dl around 400. I'm using the Netgear wireless managment.

Can anyone suggest a free virus/spyware scanner?

I use Comodo AV & FW, but if your effected with a root kit they are very hard to detect. I find it easier alot of times to just reload the pc.

You say you are connecting in the 130mbps range, what is your ISP speed. Unless your doing this on your private network. Most ISP are way below the 130mbps, the avg is closer to 3mbps. Try MS site they have high speed servers.

Did you changer your MTU setting in the router?

I don't know the exact figure of my isp but I know we pay for comcast's fastest connection. What exactly is the MTU setting?

I don't think its a router problem because my moms laptop with a standard 802.11g wireless can dl around 400 kb/s when mine netgear will only get 30 kb/s on the same file. I'm doing a virus scan right now using bitdefender.

It's possiable that your USB wireless is failing. Do you have another wireless card you can test with?

Cable normally works fine with the def 1500 MTU. DSL generally work on 1492.

Who's location manager are you using, MZC or Netgears? You only want one loaded.

Are you using QoS on the router? Like your parents activated it so they would have some bandwidth.

Do you have torrent running? it will suck all of your bandwidth.

Sorry for all the questions but as far as wireless terminology i'm pretty clueless. My parents don't touch the wireless so I don't believe the QoS would be a problem. I do have another wireless card that I was trying to use yesterday but it wouldn't even connect but I will try that again and keep you updated. Thanks for all the help

Glad you at least got something to work. Hardware fails from time to time.

Having troubles holding a connection now. Seems every 5-10 minutes my wireless will drop out. I'm about to just go buy a 100 ft ethernet cable and run it through the house. Any other suggestions as to what could be causing this? Thanks
