    Hi, all.

So, I bought the WRT54G Linksys (v5 -- there were no prior versions available at 3 local stores), and the DSL tech who came to help install it claims it's dead right out of the box.

Regardless of whether he's right, I'm taking it back to Circuit City.

Here's my question: I only need a basic router, one that'll give me about 50 feet or so of SOLID range, with no dropped signal etc. Basic encryption/security.

All I really need is dependability and would feel fine with 802.11b. What would be your top recommendation?

    Thank you.

Ummmm, the WRT54G. I have the WRT54GS (with speedbooster) and had trouble setting it up at first. I just ran a program from Linksys called "netset" and got up and running with no hitch since. I have never had a disconnection, speed/signal drop, etc. Please just try and give "netset "a chance, it worked for me.

Also, why are you letting someone else set-up your router, my cable company doesn't even set-up routers (only the modems). I got the router going myself. Just give "netset" a try.
