So I've looked up what the definition of CIR is and have gathered that it is some sort of bandwidth limiter of some sort? Anyways I have the following question on my test and was wondering if anyone knew the answer. Im guessing its None of the above but here goes:

    What is CIR?
    A Authentication mechanism
    B Error-checking mechanism
    C Congestion notification mechanism
    D Keep-alive mecahnisms
    E None of the above

Any help? :S google seems to be absent of any big definitions to CIR.

    Googling "network CIR?" yields:

Congestion control in frame-relay networks includes the following elements:
2.Committed Information Rate (CIR). The average rate (in bit/s) at which the network guarantees to transfer information units over a measurement interval T. This T interval is defined as: T = Bc/CIR.

    Sounds like a QoS condition.

CIR is also ConsumerInfraRed, as in common home electronics remote control.

    Context is important.

    Committed Information Rate is correct.

It is the amount of bandwidth your service provider contracts to you, or that you have agreed upon at the initialization of your contract. That is all.

The method they utilize to actually throttle the connection consists of lots of other acronyms that are dependent on the type of connection used.
