    Hey guys
ok so basically i have 2 laptops in my house, 1 for me and 1 for my family

so before i bought this one i used to use the old one and i have a bunch of files stored on there that are mine
I want to setup a network with that other laptop so i can copy/change/delete those files.
    Both lappys are on vista

I already have the file on the other laptop shared on the network, but when i try to access the other laptop from this one on the network, it gives me an error saying that i cannot access it. (error 0x80070035 the network path cannot be found)
However i can access my own laptop from the other one
So i can only go one way for some odd reason.

    Any ideas?

To kick this off, what kind of network setup are you using. Is one laptop connected to a wired/wireless router with internet, is there a wireless router and both connect over that, is it an ad-hoc situation? Vista is all about permissions. So your problem could stem from a firewall you have installed (or the one MS runs on your behalf) or it could be a sharing option on your laptop.

nevermind, it was the mccafe firewall on the other comp causing the problem.

    New problem now,
I want to access certain folders on the other laptop through this one, i have enabled sharing on those, however when i try to access them through here, it gives me an error saying access is denied?
I can go into the public folder, users folder and whatnot on the other computers network, but just not the specific folder i want.

Do you have File Sharing allowed as well as Public Folder Sharing allowed? Have you set up password sharing?

The folder will need the proper security permissions in order for you to access them. Right click the folder, choose properties and under the Sharing (If under .Vista you will have to select the Advanced Sharing button then select Permissions) and Security tabs give the 'Everyone' user account Full Control Permissions. If the Everyone user account isn't under the Security tab add it and give it permissions.

And that will allow another laptop that's connected to the network to access those files?

I'm having the same issues. I got the Printer Sharing working fine but I tried opening a file that was save on the desktop in the "Document's folder from the Laptop but I couldn't find it at all.

I do have File and Printer Sharing enabled. I'll try what you suggested later on.
