    hello,

i just bought this router and im having problems installing it.

    details:
-im trying to instal it on an older computer win98
-i get internet on the computer without the router
-if i enter control panel--->network i can see all the TCP/IP protocols, and there isnt one for the router (problem?)

if anyone has experienced this problem and has information, i would greatly appricate it.

    thanx

Try updating the firmware for the router by going to the Netgear website and look for downloads/firmware. Then, does the computer even see the network, like is the Local area connection enabled? (SHould be an icon in the icon try at the bottom right and see if its enabled.

You should not have to install your router. The router will get its ip address your internet provider and your laptop will get its ip address from the router.

Yes. i missed that. What is your network doing? How many computers and what are all connected. Because if you just have one computer and your plugging the router into the modem, and the computer into the router, you can by pass it.

i only have the one main computer connecting to the router and i want my laptop to use the wireless connection.

I talked my dsl provider and they told me to bridge the modem and set up the router for a PPPoE connection. I'm not sure what that all means, but they gave me instructions on how to bridge the modem.

I googled "netgear WGR 614 PPPoE" and found some modified instructions. i followed the instructions and i was able to get to the netgear setup page on my web browser. I entered my login name and password for my dsl, but it still did not work, i tested it and it gave me an idle status.

If anything can be explained or helped that would be great.

    Thanx

    two questions:

-how do i get my laptop to recognize the wireless router?
    and
-i bridged my modem, do i need to un-bridge it or do anything further?
