Newbie to wireless networking and starting from scrach. Here is what I have Dell 9300 xp pro w/ 802.11 a/b/g card and charter cable modem networked to my main computer compaq.
    1. Whats best speed/range Wireless router that will match 9300 and cable modem? I started to look but just ended up more confused on whats good and whats not. Would like a reliable signal.
    2. How to secure/safe is it? Whats need to be done to protect my network?
    3. Is there software/web sites that I should look at for that would make my life easier?

GO pick up a Netgear b/g router. They're easy to configure and support is above average. You'll want to turn on WEP security and set an access code. It's really not that hard, go get the hardware and we can help you set it up if you need.
