so we have this router, its the afore mentioned WRT150N wireless router. i had a friend call me & ask me to help hook up his wireless. i obliged and we tried everything. i took down the info from his setup before dismantling his connections to move everything.

i cannot get it to connect to the internet i have tried everything i can think of, using all of the CMD line fixes, resetting, re-configuring etc.... what it does say is its connected to the router, but the router says no internet connection. i can access the router wirelesly, and the internet works if we bypass the router, i have tried 3 different routers(this being the latest) i even bought a new modem. im at a loss here and i need help from those who are better at this than me

    thanks

His ISP probably has his MAC address paired with the cable modem that he has. There are 2 solutions:

    1. call the ISP and notifiy them of the new mac address of the wireless router.
    2. clone the mac address of his machine (the one that was attached to the cable modem, so that the router has that MAC address too.

either solution should solve your connectivity issues.

ok so i brought this thing back to my house and it won work here either, says the same thing, then we tried his wrt54gs and it wont work either at my house it says its connected but no internet, all of the values aqre the same as when my dlink router is hooked up.
i can dissconnect the dlink and put the linksys in and the linksys wont connect, but the dlink hooks right up, should i just get a new router to take to his house or is there something else i can try?

Did you try what ren3g7ade suggested- I mean MAC cloning?

no i havent had a chance to go back to his house yet, but it shouldnt be paired with my modem right? i know that my routers MAC isnt paired with my modem, i just got it, and it was a breeze to hook up and we have the same lame DSL provider & modems.
i do plan on trying that i was just digging for other things to try in case that s not the issue.

Check if your ISP requires you to set up PPPoE on your router

its not a PPPoE connection, its the standard ADSL connection, no log on required. its stumped me all to hell, it has all the same attributes as my Dlink router, but it wont connect to the internet, windows shows its both sending/receiving data, but no connection.

for those who might find this problem, i found out that the dsl provider requires that you report a new router to them, they have to have the model number. no mac or anything just the model # , fwiw i have interstar in NC. after i called it magically worked.....lame timewarner FTW imo
