    Hi all,

I recently purchased an HP nx8220 laptop with 802.11a/g/b wireless capability. I want to network this with my desktop pc via a wireless router. I am currently considering the Netgear WPN824.

However, on some websites, I have read that to utilise the full capabilities of the router, you need to purchase an additional Netgear NIC ethernet card. Apparently this applies to other brands of routers as well.

Can anyone confirm whether the inbuilt 802.11a/g/b in my laptop is sufficient enough to ensure the best performance from the router?

Using a the wired port will be faster than the wireless. Your notebook already has an ethernet port so there is no reason to buy an additional one. I'd only consider using the wired if you are moving large files.
