    Hi all,

Was buying a laptop from Lenovo Uk website and saw there were several options to customize the laptop (at extra cost of course) and was wondering whether I need this particular upgrade for £15.60:
    Wireless
    Intel WL-N 7260 BT FREE
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260AC with Bluetooth 4.0 EXTRA £15.60

My router is a ZTE zxhn h108n so Im not sure it'll make a difference. Plus I will be using this in a country (outside EU) where the broadband service itself is still at 4MB max).

Thanks in advice for any helpful comments!

    J.

    Thanks for the reply!

I've read the Intel info - doesn't really ring any bell for me, so I think it's a waste of £15.60 as I can't see why I would need this Vpro technology. I just need a wireless that works really well even with future routers and connection speeds in the next 3-5 years.

    Thanks!

I agree. They have the same capabilities otherwise.

That's not the only difference. Oddly there is a "n" only version of 7260 (the former) and "ac" version (the latter +£15.60 one).

If you don't plan on upgrading to AC router there's no reason to pay extra though.

tbh I don't even know what an AC router is. I know my current router is a 'n' router (which was recently updated by ISP so I'm thinking they're not going to update this again for maybe the next 3 years!)

So i'll stick to the 7260n card!

    Thanks for your comment!

It's not really your bad- it's Intel's. Who in their right minds would call two different cards 7260 and make one 802.11n and the other 802.11ac?

I didn't believe it myself until I checked that on Intel ARK. That's gonna produce a lot of confusion.

They actually have 802.11n that is dual band and other one that is not to make it better.
I believe there are some version without bt, some with different form factor, and guess what, they are all 7260.

One thing to bear in mind: Lenovo maintains a "whitelist" of "approved" cards in BIOS, and upgrading the card later on in the game without a BIOS hack is impossible in most scenarios.

I'd spend the extra 16 quid to be on the safe side...
