Okay I want a wireless router because right now I'm using wired and I dont plan on walking around my house attached to a router with my new notebook. I don't know much about them, but what I do know is that I don't want to spend over 40 on one. I just want a decent one for cheap. What should I get?

Is your new notebook 802.11n, or 802.11g?

well you can search on newegg.com to see if any of the routers with N or G are in your price range. I usually find the D-Link routers are a little simpler to use for beginners so you might want to look at their G routers. they should run about 30 dollars or so.

The cheap D-Link on Newegg has mostly negative reviews so you may want to avoid that. Personally my last wireless router was a D-Link and I had to reset it every couple of days for no reason to get it working, and sometimes it would lose settings after a power loss.

For decent G routers the Linksys WRT54GL is really nice, however that is over your price range ($53 after rebate). With your price range, I would go with a Netgear WGR614. Also check local sales flyer, they sell the Netgear routers pretty much everywhere so you can often get one on sale.

I agree with ocellaris on the quality of Linksys. For that matter, Netgear is a good router, but Linksys seems to have a little better support group.

Regardless of which one you choose, here's a list of numbers for each company's Technical Support:

    Linksys -- 800 326 7114
    NetGear -- 888 NET GEAR
    SMC -- 800 762 4968
    Siemens -- 800 8 FUJITSU
    Belkin -- 800 2 Belkin
    Dlink -- 800 326 1688
    Intel -- 800-538-3373
