My housemate was gifted a Dell Inspiron 3200 (couldn't find any info about it on this site so far). The basics: Pentium II @233MHz, 64MB of RAM, has a card slot and a USB port. Running Win98 (unk if SE or not)

I am setting up a wireless internet connection for my iMac and would like to be able to put a wireless card in the laptop and have it be able to also access the web wirelessly.

I am a novice, and more comfortable in the Macintosh realm, but am willing to give it a go with the windows machine.

My questions: Is it even possible to do what I'm trying?
-What wireless card will work given the system I've described?
-Is there another solution if a wireless card won't work?

[?]Any help and/or pointers will be much appreciated!!

    Thanks

Yes it is possible. I had a Compaq Armada with a Pentium 90Mhz CPU and 32Mb of RAM hooked up to the Internet via my DSL connection. It worked pretty good. Without going into all the details you need an internet connection, a wireless router and a wireless network card. They are quite easy to set up. A few companies that sell the parts are Linksys, NetGear and DLink. There is no reason it should not work. I use a NetGear setup. They offer support for 90 days after purchase, in case you run into problems. I'm sure the other companies are the same. Good Luck.

Yes, I know that it is threoretically possible...my trouble has been finding a card that will work in such an old notebook. Anyone know which 802.11b wireless card will work with the referenced system? It seems that everythin in the stores is new 802.11g and system requirements don't include what the laptop is running. There doesn't seem to be an easy way (like some sort of matrix) to locate the system and the card(s) that will work with it.

Are your getting any error messages other than it won't work? Somtimes updating the firmware on the router and the driver on the card will fix some problems. You want to keep your router away from pc and cordless phone which may cause interference. Also don't put it behind anything. G routers tend to have better range than b routers. You can use a g router with a b card, but not the other way around. I used a Netgear MA521 card and MR814 router on the Compaq. It worked fine. Maybe if you get a card that is from the same company as the router, you could call them for support. Good Luck.
