If you want to share a cable/dsl connection, then you need to buy a cable/dsl router.

Dont even matter, something good, cheap, and something I can pick up at a local store.

Personally, I'd go for the Linksys...
nick: Those are both routers, it says so right in the description..
Kegobeer: Any router is inherently a "DSL/cable" router...

@Teranfirbt: No, that is incorrect. If a router does not have the ability to connect directy to a cable connection (or DSL), it cannot be used to share a broadband connection. There are also many settings that are not shared between a broadband router and a non-broadband router.

This is completely untrue, if the person has a separate cable or DSL modem. There are some routers that included modems, but the most popular (WRT54G for example, or the Belkin Pre-N one) do not have this feature.

Let's try doing this gently, and have everyone give full answers.

lp33: Do you currently have a cable or DSL modem? (whichever is appropriate to your broadband service). If so, then between those two, the Linksys is a better buy. If not, then let us know and we'll recommend something that has both. Also, if you're certain that you don't need wireless then go with these; if you're not sure that'll remain the case, then let us know and we'll recommend something.

Alright let start from the beggining, I HAVE satellite internet(and yes, that is the only way I can get highspeed), the stellite modem connects to my laptop with cat5 cable. I have to disconnect to the laptop if I want to use the highspeed with my computer 2 rooms away. THAT is why I wanted a router so I can just connect the laptop and the computer and share the connection. I FIRST POSED wired routers because those are the ones I saw at walmart, but then saw some WIRELESS ones too. My laptop is the only one with wireless.

Nothing wrong with running a wired router if wires don't bother you. I'd also say go Linksys, but wow, is that really a Linksys Router on the 2nd link? Never seen anything like that on the Linksys page, and it's not really listed in their support either. Looks like it's a brand called Network Everywhere... unless it's a re-branded Linksys?
