gang I'm tired of trying to fix Qualcomm's horrid Atheros AR9485.
I notice in an old thread on the subject someone had recommended an Intel 6200 [or intel Centrino 6200... are they same?] as a good alternative. this being July 2013, what is the best or good N card to drop in there and rid myself of this diseased fleabag card?

    thanks for you help

That someone might have been me and yes the recommendation still stands - as far as 802.11n is concerned 6200 is the card to go for unless you have a three stream router (in this case buy a 6300) or you have no understanding of the concept of money (in this case buy a Bigfoot).

Also yes it's the same thing Centrino 6200 or Intel 6200 abgn

HP notebook = whitelist though, so make sure you get an adapter that is meant for HP notebooks, if possible your particular model.

Hp may had taken off their white list since ivy bridge refresh, haven't read anyone on nbr fail to boot with new card. Also, hp branded card seem not needed. I dont have first hand experience but thats what i concluded.

Also, Not sure if you have Intel or amd m6, may want to avoid intel card if you have amd chipset. It may work perfectly as well so just luck. Dont have enough case to say which is more likely.

yes it Is the AMD A10-4600m apu, amd-whatever chipset. I'll do some googling etc to see if others have succeeded with that card.
wish I knew what device is in the thinkpad, since its a Brazos E-350 model... its 'lenovo' but dunno the chipset/ic.
which raises a tertiary question: anyone know a utility that will tell me that... the wife's chipset/model/ver ?

Try the intel 6200, if it cause any trouble (except fail to boot which indicate white list) you can get a AR5BHB116 or ar9382.

Thinkpad is a tricky one, you need to at least know the exact model and ask around.
