I installed beta Intel Wifi drivers a while back, and they only slowed my internet down. So I've been trying to remove them for a while, they are version 12.0.0.78. I tried uninstalling it from the device manager, but it says it's necessary for system start-up. I disabled with zero-config service, and uninstalled then, but when I restart my pc they get reinstalled. I also deleted the inf's and sys files, but THEY STILL COME BACK! I even reinstalled version 11 drivers after deleting the files manually, and it is still using the version 12 beta drivers that I removed manually.

These are the files I deleted manually, and this is a screenshot of them being used after I delete them.

These are the version 11 drivers that SHOULD be listed.

I didn't choose to install the Intel wifi manager, so there are no start-up items or services.

You may have to install the Intel wifi manager, or check on the Intel website to see if there's a specific un-installer for the beta drivers. You might also try running the installer for the betas again to see if that accesses the un-installation functionality.

The reason they keep coming back, I believe, is that, because they're drivers, the OS keeps a secure backup copy - for the dlls it's called the dll cache - and each time it starts up, it checks the secured cache to see what it should have, and replaces anything that's missing (the theory being that if the system were compromised, that driver might have been replaced with an infected duplicate). Also, to prevent problems where, say, application A installed (and requires) version x.2 of A.dll, and application B, which gets installed later on, was poorly coded and just installs version x.1 of A.dll because that's what's in its installation package, the dll caching system will police the dlls and make sure that the latest version that supposed to be installed is, in fact, installed.

I'm a little surprised that it keeps replacing installed copies of version 11 with the cached copies of the version 12 betas, but my guess is that the security component of the OS only checks for the version number, goes with the highest version number of what it thinks is supposed to be installed, and doesn't worry its pretty little head over petty little details like whether the one with the highest version number is a beta or an RTM version.

the only other advice i see atm is you have the path and the name of the .exe...if you know how to muck around in 'regedit' and can locate the .exe...you should have the option to deny permission to run...make sure and write down the path...you'll see it in the status bar...just in case this causes any probs...

I was also thinking of redownloading the drivers and uninstalling, I'll try that.
