I am wondering if I would be able to attach a NAS drive direct to a PC via the ethernet port or do i have to attach the drive to a router first for the NAS to get a gateway etc etc. The Computer i want to connect the NAS to has no network connection to a network or anything.

    Thank you

You should be able to do that because you would then have a network consisting of two devices - the computer and the NAS device. You would, however, have to set all of the network configuration data up yourself since you wouldn't have a DHCP server in the mix.
