After much testing, the crackling, popping and intermittent sound drops are being caused by BOTH my Intel 82567 Gigabit Network Connection and Intel Centrino N 6200 wireless card (although the former causes way more problems).
I have downloaded the latest drivers for both but no change.

    What to do?

    I am using Windows 7 64 bit on a Dell Latitude E6400.

    Thanks.
