My internet is 400k all the time. You could try updating your routers firmware and wireless card drivers.

Ok update: i am connected wirelessly, (believe me, this is my last linksys router) for some reason, the online setup from there site always works and the cd that came with router doesnt. Still though, my internet speeds go up and down, the lowest it has been was 250kbps and the highest is 2,400kbps when it should be 5.5mbps. I am still in the same spot and it does that. I changed the channel and worked with the MTU but that doesnt help. I talked to them over the internet, "well how many lights are on the router", how is the router plugged in". Well at least the wireless is up again. Pretty werid though, Nick

Have you tried resetting the router? Try this - it normally fixes my comcast problems:
    1. Turn off router completely (unplug it).

    2. Wait 30 seconds to one minute.

    3. Push the reset button on the router.

    4. Plug the router back in, the try reacquiring the wireless signal.

Let me know if that helps!! ;)

Have you tried putting the router in repeater mode? Also, make sure you are broadcasting an SSID.

Repeater mode is intended mainly to increase the range of a single wireless LAN by extending the wireless signal.

Generally routers aren't friendly (esp. Linksys). I love my netgear, but I've had problems with it before. It doesn't like when I get phone calls.

Since this sounds more like router than Comcast problem, moving to n/w.

If your connection is dropped when you get a phone call (I had this happen to me), then you need to change the channel on the router - change it to either the highest or lowest channel, that should solve your problem. :D

First we use cell phones instead of home phones. Also i had the router and modem right on the tv and i thought that might be the problem so i moved all the stuff, thats why i was down and that didnt help so i am going to have a technician come out. I am absolutly positive it is a comcast issue because i know how to do the setup and other things. I will let you guys know what happens.
Also thanks SG for moving my thread, i asked another mod and he said off topic which i agree but it turned into a wireless issue. Thanks! :)

Ok, talked to comcast. They have nothing to do with the problem. My modem Moto Surf Board 5120 (awesome modem!) is perfect. The reason before is that a tv can interfere with the modem so my modem is fine now. So it is a wireless issue. This is the problem. The router is basically slow and i cant to anything. I can get 6mbps wired but 1.5mbps wireless, and that is when i am 10ft away from the router. So this could be a starting issue seing that nothing else can be to blame. My Linksys WRT54G Router or my Intel 2100 PCI Internal card which i have a feeling it is. So i am probally going to get a external wireless to see if that is my problem. Other suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Good Day! :)

Have you ever had problems connecting the laptop to other wireless networks? If it worked fine then, then there's no reason to get an external card.

If you haven't already reinstalled the Intel wirless card in your laptop, then do that, see if that helps at all.

If either of those two solutions didn't help  , the definitely take it up with the router manufacturer.

No i have never tryed another network. I went to my library once were there was free wifi and couldnt get anything  Right now my card is a b card so i want a new card anyway with g. And i can tell you right now, i am going to contact linksys  , but besides that if i get a new card, if doesnt help at all, I can tell you right now. Linksys is going to get a piece of my mind. I am so sick of dealing with linksys. They dont help at all. I dont really want to go with a different company since my router is only 2 months old. But if the card doesnt help, im through with linksys and will return that card and the router with no upc on it! But it should work. Just one minor question, should i leave my internal card in my computer or remove it after i put the card in. THANK YOU EVERYONE! ;) :p

Curious what version of Firnware are yoiu running ? Also r u running any security ? If you disable the security are the speeds back to 'normal' ?

Sometimes whne you upgrade Firmware things can go bad. Try the following (you may have already)

    1. Do a long reset (set Router to Factory defaults) - hold down reset button 30 - 40 seconds
    2. Upgrade firmware
    3. Do another long reset
    4. Customize youyr settings (SSID /. secuiruty / channel / etc ) if you have any

    Good luck

I would leave the card in - just disable it in the BIOS.

Have you thought about getting a new mini-pci wireless card - you could slap in a intel PRO 2200 802.11b/g card, that would work since it was offered with that model laptop as an option.

Thank you daacon but i have done all that. I disabled my firewall for a little while but it didnt do anything different. I even left my router unpluged for a whole night. I dont want to go with the 2200 becuase there are reported problems with that. I will just get the linksys, becuase i can just go to bestbuy and pick one up. I will disable the old card though.
    THANK YOU DAACON, THANKYOU CHAZ!

Well, I would test it again, like every day for a week. Comcast's cable speed depends on the amount of users - if more people are online, it is going to slow down - kind of like, the more people you put in a boat, the slower it will go.

I get around that sometimes - I have comcast. The speed really is bad lately. I haven't seen more than 2.7Mbps in the past 4 weeks. Sometimes I get less than one!!

That is the highest it has been. It is always moving down then up. Yesterday morning it was at 250kbps. But it never gets higher than 2mbps on wireless.

Well, if your speeds are fine when you are wired, and you get majorly reduced speeds when on wireless, then try removing the cable from your desktop - see what kind of speeds you get then when there is only one computer connected.

Definitely take this up with the manufacturer. This is not something that should be happening.

Would it be possible to take the router over one of your friends houses who has a wireless network, and try out your router on a different internet connection? Then you could find out for sure wether or not it is the router. ;)

This is what i plan on doing. I am going to talk online of course with linksys (lol) and see what they say, although i have before and all they said to do was to change my network channel. Didnt help of coarse. So i am going to get a wireless g card and going to see if that helps. If it doesnt help, like i said before, i am taking both router and card back and switching with netgear :). I still have a warranty on the router i hope. I recall i got it on July 13th. So the 90 day warranty (i think that is what it is) i can still return it before october 13th. This is a rare problem i have never heard of, nor anyone else. Strange? Connection speed now when i am in the same spot ~

    http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest...b2734b88ddd;2.0;www.dslreports.com/1127179645

see it is crazy, im still in the same spot. When im older im going to make a friendly router. lol :)

    Sounds good! :)

Before you buy a wireless G card though, see if somebody you know has one, and see if you can borrow it for a day. If that fixes the problem, then great! Solution is to get a G card. But, if it doesn't....take that router back and get rid of it.

I've never had any speed problems with my Netgear, I recommend getting one of those! ;)
