My friend has hughesnet satalite internet. He has this problem where he can't access web-pages, but he can get on yahoo messenger and download from torrents etc. This is only in his house-hold and affects all of their computers that run from that internet. Whats causing this and how can he fix it?

I'm at my friends house now and I can BARELY surf the internet. I hooked the computer directly up to the modem and it STILL didn't work so now I know that its not the wrt54gs router. He has the hn7000s hughes net modem. Everything is REALLY slow and sometimes when I try to load webpages they time-out. Any suggestions? We have tried turning off and turning on the modem to no avail.

What kind of setup is he using? PPPoE? Or something else?

What are the results when you do an ipconfig /all?

Have you tried flushing the DNS cache?

Did he set up the gateway, etc. for the modem correctly?

Those are the immediate things that come to mind. But, I found this info on another site. It doesn't apply to his situation does it? (Hope not.)
