    Hello,

So I got this new laptop, on which I'm running vista. And I have this 5-year old desktop, running XP.
Naturally, as it's 5 years old, I have a lot of stuff on there that I'd like to transfer. And preferably without running back/forth with a flash drive.

I tried a crossover cable, and xp didn't seem to really like that.

All computers in my house get wireless from a router without problem, so the wireless hardware works. But the computers don't find each other through the wireless network very well, for whatever reason.

So I set up an ad-hoc network with Vista, connect to it with XP. I can find the XP system with Vista, though XP can't find my laptop in the workgroup computers. Whatever.

I have Half-Life synergy mod on them both, so I run Steam offline and I can connect to myself via LAN that way, so I know they're talking.

BUT when I start to transfer files, my XP sytem gets angry, and either freezes up or BSOD's with a 0xD1 Driver_IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, which doesn't seem to be very specific. It transfers a few files, but then soon crashes.

This happens too when I'm trying to play music from the XP system on other computers with iTunes, too. It doesn't want to share.

    What can I try?

Make sure all computers are on the same workgroup.
Disable simple file sharing on the XP machines.
Make sure the Vista computer is set up as a home network.
Create identical users on all machines.
If you want to share files, put them in a location other than your "my documents" folder. That set of folders is not set up for file sharing. When the files are in another location (like D:/sharing), you'll have to enable sharing for that folder.
