Well yes, i have my own situation that is really strange:
I have a Linksys WRT54G Router With a Intel 2100 B card and a Linksys wireless card. I also have comcast at 8mbps of speed. Very nice, but one problem, i dont get near that on wireless. Yes When im through a Local Area Connection, i get about 6mbps. But since i have a laptop and no desk by my router, its impossible to be wired. So im on wireless, and i am 1 foot away from my router. Yes just almost right on top of it. And i only get 2700Kbps! :( But worse yet, what i care about is upload, i only get 14KBPS!! Im suppose to be getting 768Kbps which is rediculous. I pay so much a month, but i cant switch to a phone line internet as i dont have a home phone. We use cell phones instead. Things that i have done, and if i dont have them listed i probaly tryed it already but forgot:
    Countless Powercycles
    Updated Firmware
    Updated Drivers
    Repaired Connection
Been wired to the router, etc...
And get this, my neighbor has the Same exact router that I EVEN SET UP FOR THEM. I of coarsed sinced asked them if i can try it. I am 750ft from there house, i get a 0% to 13% signal and it still works. They EVEN HAVE DSL! Comcast advertises they have 12.5 times faster but theres is faster. When i think about that, there is something very strange going on. My guess is to take the router back but i dont have the UPC for it but they might still will.
Question: Does WPA slow down a network? I have heard no and yes but really cant confirm it as no one really does?
Good idea to take it back?
Yeah, sorry for not having an answer to my own as im the one usually giving. So, does anyone have advise for me?

The problem might be that cable connections like your are shared bandwith with your neighbor hood. The fine print says that you won't get the advertised speed at times depending on what the neighbors are doing. At least that's how comcast advertised it around my neck of the woods. I bet that's your problem.

I too have read that WPA will slow down your connection, but likewise, have never seen the slow down quantified.

Yeah, the strange problem is i live in a sparsly populated area and they told me there are 6 people connected including me to my section. That Area is over 1 Square mile and i doubt 6 people slow it down. like i said, when im wired i get my speeds. I have had 3 techs out to replace everything and they even said there perfect. Im having the top tech come out to change my whole cable box on the pole too. All the techs have said that but comcast doesnt listen. See i also have fuzzy comcast cable and my own internet is always down. It was just down from friday night to 5 hours ago which then there is something wrong. Thanks noah anyways.

Hey Nick I'm using WEP 64-bit encryption with my network. I get better performance with that - more responsive. Since you said your area is sparsely populated, then I don't think you have to worry about security that much - and WEP is still pretty secure, especially if it is 64-bit (most hackers have cracks for 128-bit lol).

lol yeah that is true. Sad thing is there are people in my neighborhood with Wireless networks except i have cable which will be tootally different. Its all DSL users so lol another option. I have suspecsions of my stupid neighbors that i think have gone on to my network so top security is a must. lol strange enough, the Verizon Wireless Base and Building is 500ft from my house. I can see inside thw windows to so i bet they can see my wireless so that makes a building with 1000 people that probaly some connect to wireless network. Also too, i see this very stange network name on my lists that is not a home user so i dont know.

Yeah, i have, its going to the trash too, lol. Man, i might just get a new router if a neighbors dsl and on the same router can be faster then mine. I let you know when i have the "Master Tech" come out. He is the only one that can do real work on the poles. It will be interesting

gee, I guess you are right. I missed that, I'll have to read posts more carefully. Haste made waste. Is your connection slow with encryption off? Or is that one of the things you tried already?

How about ditching Comcast - that might fix your problems. ;)
