Ok, I sometimes download games from STEAM or Direct2Drive.com,

when you are downloading a game it tells you your download speed, mine averages at 155-165 kb/s.

But sometimes it will sky high to around 700+ for a few seconds then drop .... ?

whats happening ? Is it possible for me to get a download speed of 700+ or is my wireless router limiting my download speeds or something?

any advice would be greatly appreciated !

    Cheers ! :D

It's either your ISP's systems, or loading on the servers you're downloading from.

Other than calling the ISP up to see if there's anything going on with their systems, or if they use download throttling as a primitive means of load-balancing their own servers, there's not much to be done.

It might be your router causing the bottleneck but to make sure, try plugging it via ethernet for a hardwired connection.

I dont think it is your ISP. What is your connection speed?

Its most likely the server/s the traffic is comming from.

Most games servers act like this, all depends how many people are downloading at a particular time, so the file transfer goes high and low as a consequence, nothing to do to keep it constant high.
