    Hi,
I just have a couple of questions about the wireless switches and things in my Thinkpad computers.
Let's start with the T42. I had upgraded the HD and was using that but then I decided to put the original 40GB drive in and "sell" it to my dad. But when I try to connect to a wireless network it won't turn the wireless radio on. In Access Connections it says "would you like to turn on wireless radios" I click yes and it never does. And of course it then can't find any wireless networks. I went into the network connections folder and found that the wireless network connection was already enabled and I also found that Local Area Connection was disabled. And I can't seem to enable it. So my final problem is that I can't connect to the internet in any way!!!!!!! HOW DO I FIX THIS????

Now for my T400. It is very new and I was experiencing difficulties with it that I won't go into detail here about but I factory restored it. After the factory restore was complete everything worked well again. Except now, not even a week after I restored it the wireless is screwed up. I can connect with windows "Wireless Network Connection" software but I can't connect with access connections. AC no longer starts up with my computer any more and when I push Fn f5 it the wireless radio doesn't show up, just the bluetooth. When I open AC it doesn't give me a find wireless networks button and when I try to connect to the network I was using before it quit it doesn't even try!! SO, HOW DO I FIX THIS ONE?!?!?!?!??!

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks,
    Jeff

On the T42......does the original HD have the original load? If so, did it connect ok before you upgraded the HD?

I don't quite understand what you mean. "The original load" ?? The wireless did work before I upgraded the hard drive and works with the upgraded HD but just not with the original.

Thanks for the help (also any suggestions on the T400)

    ~Jeff~

Did you reformat the old drive? If so, did you install all of the required drivers? If you put the "new" drive back in, does everything work?

If you have problems with the T400, you should contact IBM. A new computer should not have issues, and you should have them fix it or replace it.

The problem with contacting Lenovo (I tired this) is that all they want to do is reformat-reinstall the OS or some other lame solution like use system restore. They don't have any personalized info--just retarded solutions. If I reinstall the OS, how do I know it won't happen again and how can I stop if from happening?? Lenovo support is LAME (or at least the guy I got)!!

No, I haven't reformatted the old drive--but maybe I should?? The upgraded hard disk works fine and the wireless radio also works--just not the original HD. And I know the original worked before I upgraded it.

I don't know, I'll have to try some more things,

    Thanks though,

    ~Jeff~

EDIT: No, actually the upgraded hard drive doesn't work either, but it does turn the radio on. Maybe it's hardware.

If both drives have the same issue, I would look at the drivers and make sure they are working properly. I would also check the BIOS and see if there is a firmware update available. Have you done a complete virus/malware scan recently? It also wouldn't hurt to take the laptop to a hotspot to see if the problem lies with your router.
