Okay, so I posted my last thread based on some bad information I got (funny how that can happen)... but a better explanation of what I want to do is this:

I would like to be able to prevent others from being able to see/get/read my IP address from the outside. I would like to do this for both web browsing as well as any web-based applications I may use (would just feel better with the privacy since I use a TON of various networks throughout the day for lots of different purposes. I found a site that I use free proxies from, but I don't know if the proxy would help with applications. Anyone have any tried and true ideas that don't happen to cost anything (more of a configuration thing or freeware)????

    No problem about the misunderstanding.

The proxies you are talking about are just used to erase (hide) your track. So internet sites/applications cannot trace you back to your IP. So those just guarantee anonymity, No security.

If you are using a wireless network, most important thing to do is use the strongest security you can support (I believe that would be WPA). So that packets cannot be sniffed and data and your IP/MAC extracted from them. (at least not easily)

I bet there are other stuff you can do that others can chime in with.
