So you got your mom a laptop and you want to know if adding a Wireless Router to your current Modem from Comcast so that she can connect to the Internet will slow down your desktop PC?
If this is the case then the Internet speed on your desktop PC shouldn't slow down; at least not noticeably, unless your mom would be downloading heavily or something; which I doubt. So for the most part I would say no. -
you're going to be sharing your bandwidth with your mom. think of your internet connection with all that speed as a big pie. now, how fat is your mom? if she eats a lot of that pie (by downloading lots of stuff) it will slow your connection down. if she just takes a few small bites (light web browsing) then you won't notice it, especially if you yourself are also just a nibbler.
just go ahead and share that pie with your mother. she wiped your butt when you were a baby. (and possibly later years)
Modem and router help. please.
