We just got Cox internet and they're coming to our apartment later today to get it all set up, but we didn't get the modem/router set that they have because it was so expensive.

I did some looking online and I found a NETGEAR N150 Wireless ADSL2 plus Modem Router for $80... Is this a good deal and will it work with the Cox internet that I have. I've seen some bad reviews about Netgear, but the good over-weighed the bad so I'm not so worried about that.

However, I would really like some help from people who know better. I live in a one bedroom apartment, so it's pretty small. It'll be used for 2 different laptops and for our roommates X-Box Live.

Are you sure that it's going to be an ADSL service (on a phone line) not a service run on a cable TV wire?
I don't know which Cox provides but I can see on their website that they do- at least- provide service that requires a cable modem (not ADSL one).

As for the modem I assume you mean Netgear DGN1000- it's a low end solution based on a Sercomm main chip (if it was based on Broadcom it would be a lot better) and a cheap Atheros radio (only 150mbps).

Personally I would upgrade do DGN2200 that uses a much better Broadcom main chip and Broadcom radio capable of 300mbps.

I have Cox and it's cable internet, not dsl. I chose not to rent their equipment and use my own Motorola surfboard modem and Linksys router. This setup works great even though both the router and modem are old models.

In that case the Netgear OP mentioned will not work.

I have Cox cable and my own modem. Only requirement is the modem is DOC SIS, brand is not an issue for Cox.
